Default Advice on a new guild

Hi, Im not sure if this is the right forum to put this on but I need advice on what I should do with my new guild. Basically, right now my guild only has a cape and 1 member and I want to (obvisously) get people to join and stay. What I need advice on is if I should wait to recruit people till I have a hall and have an alliance or just keep trying to get members. Also is there anything that might help me get people to stay? I appreicate any advice.

Hey,

Well, I say try to keep the member you have, and try to retruict a few more. Don't do the "first 5 becomes officers", because it won't attract the good or loyal members (or both). I would say, mabye retruict 1 or 2,mabye 3 more people now, then just work on getting a allaince and a hall, then retruict some more. Improves your chances then..

the best advice anyone can give you about starting a guild is this...find some friends that play the game and see if they want to join your guild, once you get a few more members make it kinda a inner circle type deal to pick the hall and share the expense of buying it.then try and find some outsiders to join,do a mission with some PUGS and see if anyone thats seems right is without a guild or unhappy with their current guild.kindness go's miles

One of the best pieces of advice in there, is to make sure you know what you want your guild to be. What is your goal? PvE? PvP? Mixture? Make sure you promote people to officer who buys into your guild's goals and philosophy and you will see it grow.

Be patient, lead by example, and you'll have a guild full of happy people one day.

Thank you for you replies. I must say that forum thread is very interesting. Although I haven't used all the recommendations yet I hope to. Also I have a few more questions:
First my guild has grown a bit more (three members now ) but I have noticed they seem to be, how should I put this without being mean, really newbieish. One of the most enthusiastic new members didn't know how to use emotes, what farming was, or about GVG. I am still going to keep him on but I was wondering if I should seek more experienced players or if sticking to the newbie stock and helping them build up their skills for now? I may get a lot of joins from them and I don't mind helping inexperienced players but I am more worried that it will give my guild a bad image as a guild for players lacking skill. I also have noticed newbies are a bit more loyal and seem to stay in my small guild longer than some of the other players.

Secondly I noticed a lot of these pointers involve having a forum or team speak. I just would like some recommendations for which sites might be best to get a (free) forum from and if there are any I should avoid.

Last of all (and I know I should just look it up but I have homework I should be doing) where are the Kurzick and Luxon Ambassadors? I have only had Factions for a few days so I was wondering how far I had to go to meet them.

This is an interesting dilemma. I???ll try to address it, hope it helps. I???ll use our guild as an example, just for illustration purposes.

Our guild was formed in May 2005 by a few people (3) who knew each other in real life. We were ALL newbs. When the original leader left and put me in charge, I hadn???t even ascended my first character yet. You can be sure I had never set foot in arena, GvG, or anything like that.

One thing we did have going for us, was the philosophy we shared about helping out and being nice to one another. We never actually asked anyone to join our guild; people we PUGed with asked us for an invite. We usually did invite on the spot, because we figured anyone who can see that we play well together, and that appeals to them, would fit in well too.

Eventually, we all grew together and continue to grow. Since everyone gets along well, and is on the same page, we enjoy taking risks and trying things out as a team. With the trust we???ve built together, we help the newer players get their footing, and the more experienced players branch out and try new things such as HA and GvG (though we just do it for fun, we never expect to win lol).

This was the beginning of a casual, and I???d say, overall successful and happy PvE guild. If you are looking to make a PvP-heavy guild, you need to take a different approach, and I cannot really help you there. THAT takes discipline and organization and lots of experience, I???d say.

Even if your guildies are all new players, if you like them, you should be glad to have them. They will not stay newb for long with encouragement and information.

We used iphorum for the longest time. They are free, easy to set up, and have nice format options. Eventually we went for a paid host, however, because we wanted to do more things. It did serve its purpose, though.

As for TS/Vent, I do not know of any free providers, unless you have friends who have a large clan server you can leech off of. I pay about $8/month for a 20-slot server.

Heh. No worries, I???m at work typing this. :P Kurzick Ambassador is in House zu Heltzer and Luxon is in Cavalon. You get the quest to visit these cities from Jamei in Maatu Keep after completing the Sunjiang District mission.
